Guiding Children to Grow and Learn

Shanika Tennakoon

Shanika Tennakoon

Head of School

Originally from Sri Lanka, she earned her Associate Montessori Internationale (AMI) primary diploma from the prestigious Good Shepherd Maria Montessori Training Center, Sri Lanka, which was founded by Maria Montessori in 1944. She worked as the lead teacher at St. Bridget's convent in Sri Lanka and the British school in Colombo. Left the shores of beautiful Phuket, Thailand, to be the lead teacher at Rawai Montessori School and later at Prep International Montessori School in Bangkok.

A Decade of Dedication

Her passion for Montessori brought her to the United States of America in 2005, and she worked as the lead teacher at Pacific Rim Montessori School and Western Montessori School in the Bay Area till recently. She has been very passionate about the Montessori approach and the Montessori philosophy, which initiated her to start her own authentic Montessori school for the children of Tracy, where she lives with her husband and two boys. Shanika has a deep commitment to understanding the needs of the child. Loves teaching and being with children. She continues to thrive in her work with the children.

For the past 25 years, she has had the privilege of working with many children from all over the world. It has been one of the defining experiences of her life, one that she hopes to share with your child as well, the wealth of experience, and pass the flame of her passion to the child. "Free the child's potential, and you will transform him into the world."

Why Montessori

Once considered an educational experiment, Montessori is increasingly becoming the blueprint for a new approach to learning – one that’s demonstrating long-term success in both private and public U.S. schools. Montessori’s co-tenets are that affective learning is self-directed and that education calls for development.
